• A room for letterpress

Not Just a Hobby made this video about a couple of NY makerspaces — a community workshop where people share tools, machines, and make stuff together. Watching it, I’m so excited about KikiBouba.

Right now our letterpress lives in our shop, a hoophouse that’s either freezing or boiling for about half the year. We’re about to put a real roof on it, insulate, make it a real space. A home for our screenprinting, letterpress, carpentry, movie-screening etc etc etc — not just for us but for our friends and community too.

Before I moved to Moab, I ran an intergenerational open studio program in Detroit. People making things in the same room — it’s my favorite kind of magic and I miss it, but maybe it’s coming back my way again.

I’m Maggie McGuire. I run the Moab Sun News in southern Utah — a daily newspaper that I write, edit, sell ads for, and deliver. Before that I did digital strategy for nonprofits.

I also build digital tools, run a letterpress shop, and write about whatever I’m thinking about here.
